Maritime Osteopathy enjoys working with athletes of any age and ability who engage in sports. We have developed a reputation for the care we provide by maintaining our education standards at the highest level and developing our own awareness and personal interest in sports and recreation.
An athlete’s body must be functioning at the peak of its performance in order to maintain a healthy training program and be ready for the ever-looming event day. We provide education and support to help balance your body’s biomechanical ability, nutrition, and healthy rest.
Unfortunately we cannot predict unforeseen events during our training and competitions. Sometimes unexpected injuries happen as a result of participating in the sports we love. When they do, our role as osteopaths is to provide you with the optimal rehabilitation environment that enables you to heal proactively, with hands-on treatment and advice, maximizing your healthy return to activity. Moreover, we consider the preventative measures needed so that your injury heals to completion and you regain your full biomechanical potential.
A chronic injury is a nagging pain, tension, or strain that has been present for a long time. It may have originally been a simple, specific strain that you thought would heal itself and go away. Or, it may have been something more severe that may have originally improved but then plateaued in healing.
It is essential to understand all of the underlying reasons for your symptoms. For recovery to occur, the repair of the tissues must extend more significantly than the wear that is occurring to them, and the central nervous system must cease to ‘expect’ pain to occur. The joint you have pain in may not need treating at all. As osteopaths, our job is to problem-solve objectively to address tissue/joint restrictions, over training, poor techniques, muscle imbalances, nutritional imbalances, and lack of rest. You will be treated as an individual and treatment will be tailored to your own specific needs.
